Belgian chocolate conquers hearts all over the world

From New York to Moscow, New Zealand to Rome and Beijing to Berlin – everyone knows that Belgian chocolate is the best. But what makes Belgian chocolate the best chocolate in the world?

The cocoa beans are roasted with the greatest of care.
Then, the roasted cocoa beans are finely ground until they are just 12 microns in diameter.
Our Belgian chocolate is made from 100% cocoa butter and has a high cocoa content.
The quality of our chocolate is assured by Callebaut – the holy grail of chocolate.

Although we are constantly reinventing Leonidas by coming up with innovative creations, we also follow traditional recipes, generation after generation.
Our chocolate is Belgian through and through. Over the years, Leonidas has evolved into one of the most well-known brands of chocolate. Since the very first Leonidas creation, the recipe for success has been based on freshness. At Leonidas, we never use frozen products. Our traditional pralines are made from the most refined ingredients such as fresh butter, hazelnuts from Turkey, fresh cream, Morello cherries from the Périgord region, almonds from Italy, fresh milk, oranges from Valencia, etc. Our Maître Chocolatiers carefully choose these ingredients to surprise you with new flavours, time after time. Real Belgian chocolate, made from the finest ingredients, is used to create pralines with unique taste sensations.

The one true Manon

Did you know that the Manon was one of the first pralines to be coated in white chocolate? The Manon we know and enjoy today has evolved a lot over the years. How did it all start? The filling of the Manon was originally made of nougatine, topped with a walnut and coated in sugar. This successful recipe was adapted by Yanni Kesdekoglou. Yanni decided to replace the melted sugar with white chocolate, and it was a real success. It was a real first of its kind – the first praline made from white chocolate was born. He then replaced the walnut with a hazelnut and the nougatine with the world-famous coffee buttercream. Et voilà, there you have the Manon as we know it today.

The Manon is a one of a kind, but it comes in three different versions. The all-time classic version is ‘the white with nut’ but you can also try our Manon in dark or milk chocolate.

Has that got your mouth watering? We totally understand...

Leonidas pralines, a basic need!

Leonidas pralines, a basic need!

1940 – For five years, World War Two wreaked havoc in Belgium. During the war, Leonidas continued making its confectionery. Basilio Kestekides had such a large stock of sugar and cocoa that he had enough to keep the production going. At that time, Leonidas pralines were made for children because they contained cream, sugar and vitamins and minerals that were scarce during the war period. The price of Leonidas pralines was capped until 1983, just like milk and bread prices. These basic needs had to be available for everyone. And they were right.
